The only thing worse than a liar is a liar that's also a hypocrite!

I’m thinking the current President has that covered.

All liars ultimately are hypocrites. And all hypocrites are liars.

I believe we’ll see this as a nudge toward a coming “rebirth” of the democrat party. They’re trying to subtly portray the “old” democrats as, well, old, unfit and disconnected from the current realities. My money is on them (and the corporate media) rallying around a much younger candidate in the next presidential election. Perhaps running Kamala in 2020 was just a test flight to see how a woman (even one so unbelievably unlikable) would do.

The Democrats have no choice but reinvention.

Ultimately the two political parties are shaped by public opinion. They are not the shapers of public opinion.

The Democrats have been losing their core constituencies for the past several elections. The Republicans have been the prime beneficiary because of Donald Trump. "Trumpism" is a true political movement and paradigm shift in this country.

The Democrats have to find a way to make a bid for the newly captured Trump voters who were former Democrats. Based on last November's returns, in the next election that is going to mean speaking substantively about illegal immigration and economic security. Regardless of whether Trump's policies prove successful or not, right now he's speaking to America's electoral concerns and the Democrats are not.

What both Democrats and Republicans need to understand is that Trumpism will be a transient phenomenon. As primarily an expression of populism, its ideological foundations are minimal, and when public sentiment shifts, Trumpism will have to morph into something else or fade away. Either way, the Trumpism we see on display will shift markedly after 2028.

The winner in 2028 will likely be the party which adapts to this reality first. At the moment, the Republicans have an edge in this, by virtue of their deeper political bench. In 2016 and again last year, the GOP field was spilling off the edges of the debate stage, and several candidates such as DeSantis and even Nikki Haley could have been the nominee were it not for Donald Trump. 2028 will again see a crowded GOP field, and that means the GOP is carrying on a vibrant internal debate which the Democrats have suppressed for several election cycles.

If the Democrats do not find a way to reignite their internal policy debate, they will face away like the Whig Party in the 1850s.

One way or another, rebirth is inevitable for the Democrats.

Jake Tapper’s own face should be on his book with his eyes, ears, and mouth covered, same title. That was his original sin…. Not doing his job as a journalist starting in 2020, or 2016. Great essay as usual Peter. 🎯

I'm always struck by Alex Thompson's perpetually bug-eyed expression. I can't tell if he's genuinely gobsmacked by how screwed up the Biden Charade is or if he's just the reincarnation of Marty Feldman.

You may have an essay in that observation! So many good lines in that film. My husband’s favorite is , after being told to get the bags Marty responds “you get the blonde, I’ll get the one in the turban.”

“Criminal cabal”, “intentional malfeasance “ - yes! Peter, your sharp analysis backs corporate media and politicians into a corner without any escape routes for these weasels. They have lost all credibility, and they will find it very difficult to regain trust. Media reporting has shifted to honest, factual, and direct reporters such as yourself, and what a huge improvement this is!

The mounting evidence that Biden's dementia predates his term of office is also evidence that a criminal cabal illegally usurped Presidential authority.

Corporate media's intentional lies facilitated that illegal (seditious?) activity.

This was not innocent mistake. This was intentional malfeasance.

This was choice. And so here we are.
