Gunfire Near India-Pakistan Border

Unconfirmed Attack Near Amritsar

It is unclear if this is a fresh escalation, but there are unconfirmed reports of heavy firing from the Indian city of Amritsar, which is approximately 19 miles from the Pakistani border.

Amritsar is in Punjab, and is outside the disputed Kashmir region.

If there is a Pakistani ground attack in that area it would be a major escalation—effectively a ground invasion of India.

A posted video from X is sparse on visual detail (taken at night), but the audio is unmistakably small arms gunfire.

Disturbingly, Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has been quoted saying that Pakistan had “no option left other than full a blown war”.

Saudi diplomats have been meeting with leaders in both New Delhi and Islamabad seeking a pathway to de-escalation—apparently without much success.

Things are getting worse, not better.
