This isn’t so bad, is it? Nothing hideous that the Left can shriek is Trump’s disaster - although they will anyway. What I’m seeing in my local leftist media are attempts to blame everything on “tariffs”. For example, a few days ago there was an article that local thrift shops are experiencing rising sales, “because of Trump’s tariffs”. This is nonsense - the tariffs have mostly not had an effect yet. People are shopping more at thrift shops mostly because of Biden’s long-term inflation!
Peter, are the data sources you’re looking at saying anything about tariffs affecting the results?
We are not seeing the dramatic rises in inflation forecast by corporate media. On that basis alone the May inflation report outperforms the "official" expectations.
Inflation is up incrementally year on year. With signs of potential energy price inflation going forward, the question is how much more is the year on year figure likely to rise over the near term.
