I absolutely love those classic westerns; I’ve been on a Tubi binge lately of 1950s Westerns.
And you’re right, the implied threat - and the ability to deliver on it - IS more impactful than violence.
You know which Hollywood idol you remind me of most? (A man I’ve adored since I was 14 and had a life-sized poster of on my bedroom wall) - Humphrey Bogart, especially the Sam Spade character, from “The Maltese Falcon”. Just like Bogart, you take nonsense from nobody. You look a man in the eye and say your piece. You never initiate violence, but you can easily take the gun away from any punk that points one at you. And if you call a girl “Schweetheart”, she MELTS.
Outstanding,
Thank you for citing Title VI of the Civil Rights Act ✔️⚖️📜🇺🇲🗽
Peter, you really are Magnificent Man. You should change your profile picture to one where there’s a cape fluttering behind your mighty chest.
Another exceptionally excellent essay!
Thanks! I'm glad you like it. (Although I think I'll give the cape thing a pass. I'm far more Louis L'Amor than Marvel Comics! ;) )
Well, of course, you ARE a Texan.
I’m envisioning you with blazing six-shooters now.

More like Gary Cooper in High Noon, or John Wayne facing down Lee Marvin in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
The six shooter is present, but holstered.
The implied threat is always more impactful than the delivered violence.
