It boggles the mind that state and local politicians would want to oppose with violence federal law enforcement officers enforcing federal laws.
People are allowed to disagree with what our immigration laws say. People are allowed to protest what our immigration laws say. People are allowed -- and should even be encouraged -- to advocate for our immigration laws to be changed. All that is the essence of why we need the First Amendment.
But violence is not speech. Violence is not petitioning for the redress of grievances. Violence is certainly not peaceable assembly.
By valorizing violence, Pritzker and Johnson are opposing the very essence of republican representative democracy. They are taking a stand against the Constitution and against the State of Illinois itself.
This must not stand. If the First Amendment is to endure this cannot stand.

When LEO's are told to stand down and not assist other LEO's; that's dereliction of duty. It may cross in to sedition. This needs further investigation if the Chicago PD Chief remains at his post. Or he can resign in disgrace.

There is a possibility that even for the CPD refusing to come to the aid of Federal LEOs might be itself criminal. I've seen some chatter about that, although I'm not sure how solid that is.
I firmly believe that their short term goal is for something catastrophic to happen, forcing the federal law-enforcement into hurting so-called peaceful protesters, much worse than the armed Antifa member the other day. I pray that that will never happen.

They would no doubt be pleased if that happened, but I don't think they're planning for that--at least, they're not planning very well for it.
With any good sized riot its very easy to provoke the use of deadly force. That haven't really tried to do that. Yet.
