Here’s one reason why alternative journalists such as yourself, Peter, are so important. In the local leftist rag of a newspaper - the Minnesota Star Tribune that I’m always complaining about - there was not ONE word about Trump’s speech. Not even a tiny paragraph buried on page nine. They have Trump Derangement Syndrome so badly that when the President of the United States gives a major address they refuse to acknowledge that it’s NEWS. I suppose they’ll wait for the Washington Post or The NY Times to trash Trump’s speech, and will reprint that tomorrow. What a sorry excuse for reporting! They should be ashamed to call themselves journalists.
I can count on you to report accurately on how Trump’s promises pan out. I can rely on your balanced analysis and unbiased assessments. You are a treasure and an important source of information, set forth as truthfully as you can assess it. Thank you always, Peter!
I will say that objectivity is why I don't have more to say about the speech. It was a political speech, it was a populist speech, it was a Trump speech.
Will it achieve Trump's desired aims? I do not know, and no one else does either.
The thrust of the speech makes it clear he is thinking about how to push GOP candidates, pro-Trump candidates in the mid-terms. For better or worse, he's willing to be the dominant campaign issue for the mid-terms.
As for the rest--people should read, listen, and judge for themselves. Some people will be outraged, some people will be inspired, some people will be worshipful, just as is true with every political speech made since Marc Antony gave his funeral oration for Julius Caesar.
