I’m just glad Amazon is highlighting “Small Business Owners.” I almost always purchase from them, and they all make their products in the good ole’ US of A.
One consequence of the kerfuffle surrounding Amazon's effort to pin the blame for all price increases on the Liberation Day tariffs has been to amplify the message of "Buy American".
Emphasizing domestic manufacture for domestic consumption is a positive economic message for every country. Certainly as an American I want to see American manufacturing growing, providing more of the goods Americans consumer regularly, and creating manufacturing jobs for Americans to fill.
I must say that I had no problem with Amazon displaying tariff costs for their imported products, PROVIDED they also displayed foreign tariff costs for their domestically produced products. Doing both is not politicization, doing just one is.
That tariffs cut in both directions is a reality that Amazon's proposed pricing display change would have not conveyed. Failure to convey that complete pricing message is absolutely a messaging choice with political ramifications.
