A number of workers at a Foxconn iPhone factory in Zhengzhou ran for the hills rather than submit to Foxconn's “closed loop” quarantine in place strategy to deal with the latest round of Zero COVID lockdowns in China. Videos circulating on Chinese social media platforms showed people who are allegedly Foxconn workers climbing over fences and carrying their belongings down the road.
Waxing pedantic here: I really doubt it means "Zero iPhones". Although that Foxconn plant assembles more iPhones than any other, it is not the only place where iPhones are assembled.
Keeping up this zero-Covid nonsense will hasten the departure of manufacturers like Foxconn and Pegatron from China. Both are based in Taiwan, and were already looking to diversify plant locations.
The Zero Covid policy is so stupid that I'm still tempted to look for a clever rationale. But sometimes stubborn, bloated-ego idiocy and a control fetish really do explain things.
