A number of workers at a Foxconn iPhone factory in Zhengzhou ran for the hills rather than submit to Foxconn's “closed loop” quarantine in place strategy to deal with the latest round of Zero COVID lockdowns in China.
Waxing pedantic here: I really doubt it means "Zero iPhones". Although that Foxconn plant assembles more iPhones than any other, it is not the only place where iPhones are assembled.
Keeping up this zero-Covid nonsense will hasten the departure of manufacturers like Foxconn and Pegatron from China. Both are based in Taiwan, and were already looking to diversify plant locations.
Pedantically correct, but it makes for a good headline!
However, from what I've been reading, the Zhengzhou plant is looking at a 30% reduction in output--a large enough decrease that the local government is literally ordering Foxconn to get production back on track.
Thus, even though there are still iPhones being assembled elsewhere, the drop-off at the Zhengzhou plant is still likely to create shortages and goose prices.
The Zero Covid policy is so stupid that I'm still tempted to look for a clever rationale. But sometimes stubborn, bloated-ego idiocy and a control fetish really do explain things.

Look at the policies of most leaders of most countries: "stubborn, bloated-ego idiocy and a control fetish"
Sad but true.
