It's a real mess, and Iran has stepped in it. Let's hope they don't intend to track it all over the region.

A very good summation of the Mid East situation, Mr. Kust - thank you! You’ve raised a slew of issues and questions that I’ve also been pondering. I was alarmed when ISIS claimed responsibility for the Kerman attacks, because, wow, a Shi’ite vs Sunni war? That jihad could involve tens of millions of Islamic fighters and be HUGE. So, in your digging into the data, are you seeing any clear indications of how much ISIS is supported by the rest of the Sunni world in their recent attacks? Any disavowals by Sunnis? Are they mostly staying silent at this point? Any calls for a ‘holy war’?

ISIS, like the equally radical Muslim Brotherhood, is generally not in favor with the Arab governments (Iran, in addition to being Shi'a, is also Persian).

I doubt Saudi Arabia is terribly upset at ISIS targeting Iran, but they are not about to support or encourage them either. ISIS is about as well liked by Sunni Arab governments as Hamas (i.e., not at all).

The problem of ISIS for Arab governments is that ISIS ultimately intends to displace them as well. Their goal is to reestablish the Umayad Caliphate (or a pale imitation thereof), which means overthrowing Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and everyone else.

So, the day before yesterday, I heard from a military source, that there's a false flag event planned for the middle east, where they are going to sink an American ship w/loss of American naval lives...then, I saw that the UK announces that they have to pull back their fleet due to a "shortage of seamen," and today, I read your article, thinking that this is a perfect setup for a huge Pearl Harbor style attack, to drag us into WWIII or IV, since I believe we've already been fighting the evil puppet masters for a few years now, but who's counting, after hearing that they have killed 17 million people with that bioweapon they presented as a vax? Ugh!

A "Pearl Harbor" scenario is not in the cards. The US forces in the Red Sea are certainly at a high state of alert.

Moreover, if a US naval vessel is attacked with any degree of success, even those who are not in favor of a US presence have to recognize the US will respond forcefully against the Houthis.

There are routes to escalation that pull the US in, but "Pearl Harbor" is not on any of them.
