The Manitoban government is laying out a timeline to end all pandemic restrictions by mid-March. Unfortunately for Premier Heather Stefanson, the timeline she's put forward merely underscores how illogical and unscientific the restrictions have been.
On Tuesday, pandemic capacity limits will be dropped for restaurants, licensed premises, entertainment venues, indoor and outdoor sporting events and casinos and gatherings at private residences.
They will also be removed for outdoor public gatherings.
Indoor public gathering limits will be removed if proof of vaccination is required to enter. If not, the limit will be 50 people.
If vaccine passports are still helpful for indoor public gatherings, they would be helpful at indoor sporting events and dining establishments. If capacity limits contain community spread at some venues, they would contain community spread at all venues.
Stefanson to her credit is looking for the political off ramp from the pandemic panic. Unfortunately for her, by so doing she's proving that it was always just politics, and never “science”.
