Leftists have cried wolf way too many times in regards to Republican nominees and politicians being guilty of sex crimes for me to believe any of it. I'm still waiting for the Trump pee pee tape to be released.
There's also a palpable hypocrisy, given the willingness of the Democrats to turn a blind eye to the credible claims of sexual assault against Joe Biden by Tara Reade, as well as the sordid history of figures such as Bill Clinton.
The posture of righteous indignation the media and the Democrats want to adopt over Matt Gaetz just isn't believable. Maybe if they'd put some effort into policing their own it might be different, but they haven't done that, or even shown interest in doing that. And so here we are.
So, allow him to appoint his choices while congress in a recess. If the enemy is using all its tools ie media and institutional control and corruption INCLUDING OUR CHURCHES then why shouldn't he? Force them to stop it by proving it to be impermissible.
I liked Matt Gaetz but was troubled by the allegations, so I've been digging around. I think the best reporting on this story was done by Molly Hemingway at the Federalist. Leaving out most of the details, it appears someone who was basically a jail-house snitch (not exactly, but close enough) gave a written statement saying that he was in jail with Greenberg and Greenberg told the snitch that the feds wanted him (Greenberg) to give up Republican names, including Gaetz, and implicate them in his illegal schemes. Greenberg told the snitch he was going to fabricate evidence against Gaetz and others. The snitch, who was getting his own deal for snitching on an entirely separate matter, did not think it was right for Greenberg to falsely accuse innocent people and came forward to Gaetz. Essentially, the snitch exonerated Gaetz. Hemingway had links to original documents in her reporting and the evidence was convincing. I recommend looking at Hemingway's writing on this.
It's worth noting that the lawyer for two of the "witnesses", Joel Leppard, is talking to the media and leaking the substance of what was told to the FBI back in 2020.
The media is basically running with the salacious bits of what the FBI got during its original investigation, only without the extremely important nuances that the stories are a) lacking both credibility and corroboration and b) do not describe "trafficking" as defined by Florida Statutes §787.04.
This is goes back to why Speaker Johnson is against the dissemination of the House Ethics Committee's investigation and report. If there was any real substance to these issues the Ethics Committee would have handed the matter off to law enforcement for prosecution--and given Gaetz' flamboyance in going after the DoJ in public hearings, it beggars belief that Merrick Garland would not have jumped at the chance to kneecap Gaetz with a criminal charge.
That the DoJ did not move forward with criminal charges says a lot about the quality of the "evidence" being leaked now to corporate media.
Exactly right. The big picture is that Gaetz, like many, is not an innocent choir boy, but he wasn't elected to be a saint. He was elected to be an effective representative and legislator and both of those duties require qualities that are not always nice or pretty. Indeed, by almost every measure, Gaetz has been effective and has taken principled stances on important causes. That makes him as good, if not better, than most House representatives.
Peter, you are 100% right that they should either file charges or stop the ‘allegations’ - aka ‘smear tactics’ and ‘hit jobs’. They are tarnishing the image of the US government in the eyes of world and in the eyes of the voters. They are doing harm. We are sick of this lawfare, mud-slinging, and unbecoming conduct. Did Trump start an insurrection? Then charge him. Did Biden shower with his own pre-teen daughter? Then charge him. Did Gaetz engage in sex trafficking? File charges, or slink back into your filthy hole you lowly, lying snakes.
I do suspect the country is at a point where it is ready to say “enough!” to the BS.
Given that most of the politics of personal destruction used by the Democrats of late began with Joe Biden and his savage treatment of Robert Bork when the latter was nominated to the Supreme Court in 1987, there is a certain poetic irony to Joe Biden being shuffled off the political stage now along with the political nihilism he played a central role in causing.
I hope all of these scoundrels seek forgiveness before they die. Americans get angry because OUR country was supposed to be a better kind of country, one without the banana-republic lawfare or court intrigue of the old European countries. “Liberty and justice for all” was not supposed to be an empty slogan here. If the new Trump administration can behave in a manner more keeping with our Founders’ vision it would do a world of good for our country’s healthy continuance.
I keep coming back to the observation I have made before about J6: while it was not an insurrection, it was a demonstration of how deep the anger against the DC Swamp runs in this country.
One view of Trump's winning a popular vote majority is that anger has only grown and intensified in the four years since.
If that view is correct, then everyone is well advised to view J6 as a warning--a reflexive message from the people to the DC Swamp that the people are done being taken for granted. "FAFO" is the subtext of that event.
If the GOP chooses a major conflict with Trump, popular anger against the DC swamp could go in some very dark and very ugly directions very quickly.
My fear is that neither the Democrats nor the GOP understand just how little more provocation would be needed to destabilize this country. I suspect the people truly are that angry.
We’ve given them a mandate with this latest election. We’ve given Trump the Electoral votes, the popular vote, and the trifecta. WE EXPECT THEM TO TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY. You wanted ‘democracy’? Well, here are the results - abide by them! We want that swamp drained. We want a return to sane and solvent governance.
Anyone playing the same old despicable games of lawfare against this mandate is looking to be tarred and feathered and run out of DC on a rail (or the modern legal equivalent thereof).
The R senators lines up against him don’t require facts to vote him down, it’s all about “the feels” and the “optics”. “How would it look to have such a man as AG?! How can such an august body as the US Senate (blech!) support this man as the chief law enforcement officer?! The outrage!” Bluster, bluster, bluster, argybargy, blather, bluster!
However, without the cover of at least a few salacious "facts", the GOP Senators who want to vote against Gaetz have to weigh the consequences. Trump got reelected despite the Democrats and corporate media going all in on a campaign of personal destruction against him. Trump got a majority of the country to back him--HIM, not the GOP.
If the GOP tries to obstruct Trump the results in 2026 will not be pretty. Trump has already pulled in a couple of high-profile Democrats in Tulsi Gabbard and RFKJr. Couple that with tech disruptor Elon Musk as well as the entrepreneurial instincts of Vivek Ramaswamy and you have the makings of a "MAGA" political party--an institution which is neither Republican nor Democrat.
The Deep State has thrown everything at Trump and the MAGA movement imaginable, and Trump still got elected with a mandate. The Establishmentarians in the GOP spend too much time counting votes not to realize that--and that means they need to choose their battles with Trump very carefully, or they get ejected in 2026.
The GOP can ride Trump's coattails, or get hung by them. They need to choose wisely.

I like Mollie Hemingway. She does first class work.

In the end, it is all just politics.
