The powers that will be scrapped include: lockdowns, MIQ, worker vaccine mandates, gathering limits, the vaccine pass, QR code display, entry requirements at the border, traveller vaccine requirements and testing for people in self-isolation.
This retreat from pharmaceutical authoritarianism is not coming with any sort of mea culpa, or even an admission that the policies which lead to the fascism failed. In true politician-speak, this surrender of power is being spun as proof that the policies had worked, the crisis has past, and so the policies and the powers are no longer needed.
Acting Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins described the changes as a significant milestone.
“What were once justified and served our country well should now be removed.With these changes, the legal framework matches the risk,” Hipkins said.
The reality, of course, is that the lunatic lockdowns, Zero COVID, and all the authoritarian diktats that followed were never justified, and were never successful, and were never anywhere near moral or proper in an ostensibly free and democratic society. We must never forget that long before New Zealand veered into pharmaceutical fascism the policies they embraced had already been proven complete and total failures.
We must never forget that serial government violations of fundamental human rights ignored—and in fact continues to ignore—the mounting evidences that the mRNA inoculations at the center of it all are both highly toxic and extraordinarily ineffective.
While we should celebrate any time the pharmaceutical fascists are in retreat, we must never lose sight of the reality they have not—and likely will not—ever admit they were wrong. If we give them even half a chance, they will return with a vengeance.
