It is important to realize that not every biological researcher in the world supports the insane BU gain of function research on SARS-CoV-2. Quite a few scientists find the episode disgraceful and shameful.
'The novel lab-generated coronavirus exhibits the high immune escape of Omicron BA.1 and higher lethality than Omicron BA.1 — albeit lower lethality than original Wuhan-1 SARS-CoV-2 — in mice engineered to display human receptors for SARS-like coronaviruses.
As I pointed out previously, the BU research team explicitly examined their “chimeric” virus for increased pathogenicity. It was gain-of-function research, no matter how many times BU bobs and weaves and tries to duck responsibility for their unethical and ultimately unsanctioned experiments.
That’s not just my opinion, or my conclusion. It is the opinion and the conclusion of many of the BU researchers’ own colleagues and peers, who are genuinely appalled by their reckless disregard for the principles of ethical research.
Who? The BU researchers? It would definitely be interesting to know their grant history.
Dr. Ebright, however, has been outspoken about GoF research for some time. He was one of the more vocal commentators who called BS on Fauci's denials that he funded GoF research in China, and he's got the creds to back it up.
Reckon they have already received from DOD tens of millions in "additional funding?"

My thoughts exactly.
