There is a simple answer to both Ukraine and the Middle East. The US should just walks away from both wars. I know it's pie in the sky, but lift all sanctions on both Iran & Russia.

The Middle East is simple. Iran, Turkey, Israel and maybe Egypt duke it out. That should keep them busy for awhile.

Ukraine is more complicated because Europe is desperate to war with and conquer Russia, but that's their problem.

A couple of weeks ago Trump indicated that there would be no more bombing until after the election. Peter, do you think that he must now resume attacks, in order to prevent the oilpocalyse from derailing Republican election victories? Do you see anything else that he could realistically try before the midterms?

Bombings won’t bring the price of either crude or diesel down.

At this point I’m not sure anything will bring the price of crude or diesel down before the election, at least not to the degree necessary to prevent the beginnings of stagflation.

Short of a peace deal (and there’s rumors floating over on X that there might be a peace deal about to be struck), there’s not much anyone can do to avoid the oilpocalypse.

Unfortunately, there’s quite a bit the US, Europe, Ukraine, Russia, and Iran can do to make the oilpocalypse quite a bit worse.

The odds aren’t in anyone’s favor at the moment.

Depressing. Okay, do you see anything that Trump could do to ensure that the oilpocalyse happens to the EU instead of the U.S.? That is, in the race to the bottom, how could Trump steer events so that the U.S. comes in last?

That's two separate issues.

On the first, the oilpocalypse is here in the US. The best that can be achieved now is containment.

On the second, with France potentially heading into a sovereign debt crisis on top of the energy crisis and their ongoing sanity crisis, right now Europe has pole position on the race to the bottom.
