It bears mentioning that what we call capitalism today was the mercantilism Adam Smith wrote Wealth of Nations to criticize.
You're right.... not a lot of it is actual progress. But the solution is for the supposed leaders to sit down, shut the Hell up, and let people work, do business, mind their business, and live their lives
