I have long held that the proper way to end this insane war is for Russia to pull its troops back to Russia proper and resolve their legitimate grievances at the negotiating table. Europe still has enough demand for Russian oil and natural gas that Putin has the necessary leverage to achieve peacefully what he is proving unable to achieve by war: security for Russia.
