Thank you for this clear eyed evaluation and stating things in easy to understand terms that I appreciate very much. There’s going to be so much discussion and opinion on all of this, but I agree that they’ve only agreed to open the Strait, everything else is “to be discussed.”

"The Islamic Republic of Iran reiterates that it will never produce nuclear weapons"

Notice it doesn't say anything about buying them!

It does not, but no country which makes nuclear weapons makes a habit of selling the weapons themselves. North Korea and Pakistan have potentially monetized their technology for making nuclear weapons but even they are not selling actual warheads.

“3 — The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States undertake to negotiate and reach a final agreement within a maximum period of 60 days, extendable by mutual consent.”

Yes indeed, this is just an agreement to reach an agreement, “extendable by mutual consent”. This gives Iran wiggle room to drag everything out until they are militarily back on their feet. NOT a good strategy for the U.S.

I read these terms thinking, “Just no.” There are a dozen ways within this weasel talk for Iran to undermine or attack us, and their history of duplicity and deceit give us every reason to suspect they will do so. For example, the “Islamic Republic” promises to never develop nuclear weapons? Heck, all they have to do is change their name to “Most Holy Islamic Republic” or “Joe’s Bar and Grill and Republic” and then they can spring their nuclear weapon on us saying, “Oh, we’re a different nation now; those terms don’t apply to us”. They’re completely deceptive. Don’t trust them!

Arguably the main lesson learned from WW2 was, “when dealing with a Hitler, don’t count on appeasement”. Yes.

But you’re right, Peter, what is the alternative? It’s 17 days until our 250th Fourth of July. My guess is that Trump has contingency plans for most of Iran’s actions, and he may have some fireworks up his sleeve. Or maybe all Trump has to do is wait for Iran to trip up and hang themselves. They likely will.

If the US sticks to the policy outlined by Vance regarding pay for performance, there is hope for a workable deal.

If the US strays from that negotiation policy, the deal will not be good.

I still think you should be advising in the White House, Magnificent Man.❤️
