“We’re in a stronger place today as a nation, with more tools—like vaccination, boosters, and treatments—to protect ourselves, and our communities, from severe illness from COVID-19,” said Greta Massetti, PhD, MPH, MMWR author. “We also have a better understanding of how to protect people from being exposed to the virus, like wearing high-quality masks, testing, and improved ventilation. This guidance acknowledges that the pandemic is not over, but also helps us move to a point where COVID-19 no longer severely disrupts our daily lives.”
How does the guidance avoid “severely disrupting daily lives”?
By dropping quarantines, naturally.
Recommending that instead of quarantining if you were exposed to COVID-19, you wear a high-quality mask for 10 days and get tested on day 5.
Reiterating that regardless of vaccination status, you should isolate from others when you have COVID-19.
You should also isolate if you are sick and suspect that you have COVID-19 but do not yet have test results.
If your results are positive, follow CDC’s full isolation recommendations.
If your results are negative, you can end your isolation.
Recommending that if you test positive for COVID-19, you stay home for at least 5 days and isolate from others in your home. You are likely most infectious during these first 5 days. Wear a high-quality mask when you must be around others at home and in public.
If after 5 days you are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication, and your symptoms are improving, or you never had symptoms, you may end isolation after day 5.
Regardless of when you end isolation, avoid being around people who are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19 until at least day 11.
You should wear a high-quality mask through day 10.
No quarantines, stay home for about five days if you get sick.
The CDC just reduced COVID-19 to the seasonal flu….at last.
I’d say it’s a stretch to say they have reduced it to the seasonal flu. In my lifetime (over 50yrs) I don’t think I’ve ever been tested for the flu. Because there was never any reason to do so. For the most part, treatment does not change based on the flu test (fluids, rest, vitamins, analgesics, and maybe decongestant/expectorant/antihistamine), nor would recommendations to stay away from vulnerable people. Common sense.
With COVID, they are still recommending testing, even when you are asymptomatic. And from the earliest stages of the “pandemic,” they aggressively suppressed early treatment options, at least until they could monetize them. Nonsense.
I may make a quick post today on this matter, but it's kind of funny. I wrote a post on December based on an article published in BMJ about how the pandemic will end in which it had similar sentiments. I argued that as soon as we stop focusing on the 24/7 news then we could probably return to normalcy.
I'm not convinced that this spells the end of COVID since winter is coming, but I think it at least tells us that we should use this time to gain back some normalcy and take control of our own lives. Then, when they try to pull this in the coming months hopefully enough people don't care that they just move on and all those in power can topple from their high horse.
Too little too late. They’ve traumatized and injected enough people to keep society sick. This quick change will go without notice by many. Hospitals will continue to mask everyone and practice unsafe practices dictated by CDC. War is far from over.
The fallout from the Pandemic Panic Narrative will be with us for quite some time to come, I fear.
Not only are we still confronted by the toxic evils of the mRNA inoculations, but coming to terms with the extent to which civic society has been irrevocably altered and damaged by their propaganda will not be a short process.
If we are lucky this is a sign that the Pandemic Panic Narrative will not do any more damage.
I wouldn’t speak too soon. Elections are nigh! At some point, the current administration will likely claim credit for reducing the pandemic to common cold status.
Haven't they already done that? Or at least used Omicron to indicate that they were doing a good job rather than Omicron being more mild. I've heard an interesting argument that the raid is going to be used as a pretext to target conservatives. Even as someone who isn't a conservative I think the current move is not about COVID but towards the raid and inflation most likely.
What will Trudeau do now?

I agree it doesn't seem political at all! <cough cough> It's getting hot and the cooks are getting out of the kitchen (lab.)

If you read between the lines one thing they are saying is that COVID is here to stay.
They probably have figured out that if they try another lockdown over COVID they'll have an actual rebellion on their hands.

No doubt they'll try.
