Wow, your analysis provides a very well-informed, balanced take on the monkeypox situation. It’s clear that this isn’t a straightforward, black-and-white issue.

You’re absolutely right in highlighting the need for nuance when discussing the spread of the virus. The fact that most cases remain concentrated in Africa, despite the global emergency declaration, underscores the long-standing issues of healthcare disparities and media sensationalism surrounding outbreaks like this.

I totally agree with your point that the focus should be on improving healthcare infrastructure and access in Africa, rather than just pushing vaccines.

I wish everyone fretting about monkeypox could read your excellent summation of actual facts so they could turn their worried attention elsewhere. And I’d be curious to see the complete data from Kamituga. How many cases of gonorrhea and other sexually-transmitted diseases were found, in comparison with cases of monkeypox?

Speaking of worried attention, now that the DNC is over the MSM is going to turn their attention to some new fearporn. The children are going back to school, so is it time to hype some new contagious sickness related to that? Ideally, from the media’s stance, whatever is horrifying must be tied to Orange Man Bad. Hmmm. Maybe Trump planning to make Kennedy the new guy in charge of the CIA (or whatever is announced) could be it. We’ll be at the mercy of foreign spies! Foreign spies who will plant Monkeypox in our schools!

I’ll bet you could easily come up with an even scarier scenario, Peter.....

Ah, ‘Gbill7’ brings up some interesting points, albeit somewhat satirically. the tendency of the media to exaggerate and sensationalize health-related news, often to the point of “fear porn”, especially when there’s a possibility to blame it on Trump.

And Gbill7’s hypothetical “monkeypox-in-schools-caused-by-foreign-spies” scenario, with a dash of Trump and the CIA, is certainly a hilarious yet terrifying example of how far the media could potentially take things.

Given that the global spread monkeypox has so far been sexual in nature, I think I'd rather not contemplate how they would spread it into the school system.

The only way to smash the 'state of emergency' formula is to ignore it. If everyone ignores and displays simple courage they - the emergency bullies - can't push moral panics.

Yup, ignore and ridicule!
