Good analysis as usual. Peter. I think this will just be temporary as I don't think Powell and the Fed really know what direction to go in. The pause was I think just a way to regroup and to see what happens because, to be honest, I really don't think they really know! what will happen!! Wow, regarding the inversion. Who knows....but I’ll bet you figure it out first!

And yes, there is probably no *objective* assessment of woke banking culture anywhere. Some insider will publish an eye-opening tell-all book someday,in retrospect. But too late.

It’s always so impressive how you can see all of this and explain it so well, Mr. Kust!

Some questions:

This ‘mother of all inversions’ - do you know if that has happened before, and if so, how did it play out?

Also, Siicon Valley Bank tanked in part because they had gone deep into a ‘woke’ culture and away from sound banking fundamentals (as I remember, their risk-analysis officer was a young, woke lesbian who apparently got her job primarily because of these attributes). In your always-amazingly uncovering of banking info, have you seen any discussion within the industry regarding the need to dump the creeping wokeness and return to solid banking practices? Any evidence that it is happening? Hard to quantify, I know, but maybe you’re seeing something reading between the lines...

So far as I can recall, we have never seen an inversion of yields this large or this long lasting. Normally, inversions are an indicator of imminent recession, but the onset of that recession resolves the inversion.

That has not happened this time. What the larger ramifications are we will only learn over time. There are not a wealth of historical parallels for comparison.

As regards the role of "woke" culture in SVB's collapse, what is certain is that the bank collapsed because of a structural failure to maintain good banking and business practices. Not having a closeup view of SVB's culture, I am reluctant to quantify the role of that culture in the collapse.
