My husband told me last week the company where he works was getting ready for layoffs. Today he said around 60 or 70 people.. gone.

Sadly, I suspect there are many more such stories out there. One reason ZeroHedge expected a negative jobs report was because of the number of companies reporting layoffs. Certainly Composite PMI data from around the globe is signaling economic slowdown just about everywhere of note save India.

I will keep my fingers crossed that your husband does not number among them.

Ultimately, I'm leaning towards worse.

Job numbers tend to be a trailing indicator.

Numbers like the ISM surveys strive to be leading indicators. Market reaction is also something of a leading sentiment indicator.

They are not pointing in a good direction.
