As more than a few of you have noticed, it has been a while since I posted here. It is time—perhaps past time—that I explain myself.
The short answer is that I am pursuing other projects and opportunities which simply do not allow the time necessary to do the reading, do the research, and do the analysis necessary to produce my content.
The longer answer is why I am pursuing other projects and opportunities.
Mostly, it is a question of growth. For some time I have been at a plateau of subscribers, and have not been able to push past it. While my work has never been entirely about the subscriber base, nor even getting paid subscriptions, growth there is a useful metric to tell me how well my message is getting out, and how much that message is improving, or not. For quite some time now, it has not been improving.
Yet it is not merely a question of growth in subscriber numbers or followers. There is my own personal growth that is an even more vital consideration.
It is in that regard that I have come to be pulled away from this Substack. I have been contending with a gnawing discontent about my work here. Specifically, while I believe I have accurately assessed and dissected most of the issues I have covered, there is a singular question that remains unanswered in my mind: “What now?”
What should we be doing with the facts and the data and the evidence?
When we have empirical data that proves beyond any and all doubt that the COVID Pandemic Panic was complete hysterics driven by media propaganda, that the mRNA inoculations are not merely ineffective but are downright toxic and deadly, how do we respond to government bureaucracies that will not admit and answer for what they have done?
When we see time and again the complete inability of the Federal Reserve to comprehend their own economic data, what should we be doing?
When we see both sides in the war in Ukraine promoting endless war over lasting peace, what should we be doing?
When we see the judicial system being weaponized against a political adversary of the ruling party, what should we be doing?
I do not have the answers to these questions.
What I do know is that, while there is little one man can do to contend with dysfunctional policy and poltics at the national level, there is a great deal more that can be done the closer one gets to the local community.
What I also must acknowledge is that, over time, the thoughts and concerns which motivate my writings in my
Substack have become increasingly more important to me.The result of these many converging aspects of growth is that I am choosing to put my energies into the ministry I have recently set up, The Houses Of Refuge Project. I am putting my energies there, and into pursuing mastery of the skills I will need to make that effort a success.
Why the change? It is a simple question of having discernible impact. By pushing forward my ideas for positive community change in this way, I can directly impact people’s lives for the better. Perhaps more importantly, I can see the impact I am having. I can know that I am making a difference, and making more of a difference than I can with just this Substack.
Am I completely suspending publication of All Facts Matter? No, although I will be posting new articles far less often. What will change is that I will be focusing my writing more, and taking a stronger advocacy stance, which is a departure from the objective standards I originally laid out for this Substack.
What will also ultimately change is that I will at some point be turning off the paid subscription feature. While I am extremely grateful to all who have paid for their subscription, and who have allowed me to bring All Facts Matter as high as I have, I also recognize that the shift in philosophy is a radical restructuring of the Substack into something significantly different from what you, my loyal readers, are expecting in return for your hard-earned money.
I do want to thank everyone who has been a loyal subscriber these past few years. You have been the inspiration for me to push forward this far, and without you I would not have learned half the things I have—and this has been quite the education for me! I am at a crossroads where my own personal education is now moving in a different direction, but I would not have come to this juncture without you. For that, I am eternally grateful.
My hope is that all who have read my work have come away a bit better informed about the world in which we live, and are perhaps a bit better equipped to make the important decisions they are facing in their lives. My hope also is that everyone who has read my work comes away with the motivation to be a more skeptical consumer of information, to ask hard and uncomfortable questions of others, and to be relentless in pursuing the answers.
I will close by reminding everyone of this salient truth: the facts are always out there, the data is always available, and therefore the truth will eventually be known by all. With or without my writing, please stay curious, please keep asking hard questions, knowing that you deserve honest and complete answers every time.
Peter, You have a unique and compelling voice and you will be missed. You have to do what you have to do, but I think you underestimate your impact on the community that has followed you, some of us from the beginning. We wish you nothing but success and satisfaction in what you do next, but we will all be the poorer for it. Thanks for everything.
Good luck with your future endeavors Peter!
I've noticed that plateau for quite some time as well personally. I think Substack is reaching that certain point of saturation and so it either is costing readers too much to be subscribed to so many writers or only the top writers are the ones who are garnering attention. Likely a combination of both. It'd be interesting to see what comes of Substack in the future- it seems like most people have slowed down regardless, which makes it curious what will happen with this arena.
In any case, hopefully your future pursuits prove fruitful if not for others at least for yourself!
