Kamala Harris, Border Czar To Traffickers?
Have 320,000 Children Been Trafficked Under The Biden-Harris Administration?
It is never a good thing when the government tells you things are much worse than first reported.
Kamala Harris’ track record as border czar for the Biden-Harris Administration is being revealed to be much worse than first reported.
The Biden-Harris administration has lost track of more than 320,000 migrant children who crossed the border without parents, according to a shocking new report.
Untold numbers of the children — who were released into the US to “qualified sponsors” — are now at risk of sex trafficking, forced labor and other forms of exploitation, a Homeland Security Inspector General’s report released Monday said.
That number is not a typo. More than 320,000 migrant children have been trafficked into the United States from the border with the facilitation and assistance of the Biden-Harris Administration.
That the border has been a hot mess of human trafficking is itself not news. I have already explored in some detail Kamala Harris lamentable and negligent handling of the border while she was border czar. A crucial point to understand is that Biden-Harris Administration policy has been to hand children over to “sponsors” even when there are good reasons to believe those sponsors are traffickers.
Even more disturbing is the documented fact that many of these “sponsors” are seeking to take multiple children, which some argue is a clear indicator of labor trafficking.
With the government struggling at the time to place children in safe homes, one caseworker said supervisors were warned that adoption attempts by some sponsors may indicate children were at risk because the sponsor was trying to take on at least a half-dozen children, a common indicator of labor trafficking.
Also crucial to understand is that these children are in effect being sold into slavery, working long hours even for well-established “brand” name companies.
Nor are the companies willing to exploit these children small “fly by night” companies. Quite the contrary, many are at the heart of the American economy:
Migrant child labor benefits both under-the-table operations and global corporations, The Times found. In Los Angeles, children stitch “Made in America” tags into J. Crew shirts. They bake dinner rolls sold at Walmart and Target, process milk used in Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and help debone chicken sold at Whole Foods. As recently as the fall, middle-schoolers made Fruit of the Loom socks in Alabama. In Michigan, children make auto parts for Ford and General Motors.
If it is possible for what is already a clear humanitarian crisis at the southern border to have a dark underbelly, the complicity of the Biden-Harris Administration in child trafficking is surely it.
Let there be no misunderstanding: this failure is owned by the whole of the Biden-Harris Administration. Multiple agencies and multiple Cabinet-level Departments have combined to produce this moral fustercluck. The DHS Office of Inspector General’s report makes that absolutely clear.
Additionally, even though HHS is responsible for the care and custody of UCs, ICE did not always inform HHS’ Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) when UCs failed to appear in immigration court after release from HHS’ custody. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers at only one of the eight field offices we visited stated they attempted to locate the UCs. ICE also did not serve a Notice to Appear (NTA) on all UCs, after release from HHS custody, who warranted placement in removal proceedings under 8 U.S. Code Section 1229(a). As of May 2024, ICE had not served NTAs on more than 291,000 UCs who therefore do not yet have an immigration court date.
HHS fails to monitor the unaccompanied minors released into the United States. DHS fails to notify HHS of the unaccompanied minors failing to show up for their court dates, or just doesn’t bother to send a notice to the unaccompanied minors that they have a court date.
This means there is good reason to believe that these “UCs”—these children—have in fact been trafficked into the United States.
Tara Rodas, who was recruited as a federal government employee to help the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) with an influx of migrant kids in 2021, believed she would be doing noble work. However, she told The Post she was shocked to find she was handing those children to “traffickers, members of transnational criminal organizations, bad actors, bad, bad, bad people.”
According to Ms. Rodas, the Biden-Harris Administration gutted the vetting procedures for sponsors showing up to take custody of unaccompanied minors detained at the border.
What is absolutely certain is that there are a lot of unacccompanied children arriving at the southern border, and have been for quite some time.
According to the interim report, from 2019 to 2023 -- a period spanning both the Trump and Biden administrations -- immigration officials transferred more than 448,000 unaccompanied migrant children from ICE custody to HHS.
It is quite possible—perhaps even probable—that at least some children were improperly released to traffickers during the Trump Administration. We must remember that the problems of properly vetting and communicating with sponsors for unaccompanied minors extends back into the Obama Administration. It was widely accepted even in 2015 that the Obama Administration had released at least some children into the clutches of human traffickers.
Yet it is under the Biden-Harris Administration that the problem has grown exponentially worse. Even should we discover that some children were improperly released to traffickers during Trump’s term of office, the duty of fixing whatever problems were inherited from the Trump Administration falls squarely on the shoulders of the Biden-Harris Administration. The Biden-Harris Administration failed in that duty, and has gone on to fail in its duty of care and common decency towards hundreds of thousands of children since.
Dr. Jason Piccolo, a retired federal agent who blew the whistle in 2015 on the government releasing unaccompanied children to potential criminals, said the latest revelations about the missing children are “deeply concerning.”
Some of the children the federal government has released into the US are working in exploitative conditions in slaughterhouses and factories, according to multiple media reports.
“There needs to be an immediate standard operating procedure put in place to track the status and whereabouts of every single unaccompanied migrant child across all involved agencies,” said Piccolo.
“One child lost to trafficking is one too many. This systemic failure demands immediate attention and reform to ensure the safety of all children in our care,” Piccolo added.
Kamala Harris was border czar for the Biden-Harris Administration. She might wish to deny it now, but she accepted that appellation at the time, and all the responsibility that attaches to it.
That responsibility lands on her again because she is the Vice President of the Biden-Harris Administration. In her campaign speeches, she has no qualms about joining herself at the hip to Joe Biden.
So our country has come a long way since President Biden and I took office.
As she is willing to share in the glory of the Biden-Harris Administration, she must share also in the shame of the Biden-Harris Administration.
And shame it is. While these children are entering this country illegally, they are still children. We are supposed to give a damn about children. We are not supposed to traffick them, and government officials especially are not supposed to be handing them over to traffickers. The purpose of vetting sponsors for these children is to make sure they are released into the custody of adults who will actually provide proper care—who will see these children go to school, and are decently clothed and fed.
The Biden-Harris Administration is not properly vetting sponsors, and has not been properly vetting them. Whistleblowers report that this lack of vetting has gone on almost since the beginning of the Biden-Harris Administration.
Because the Biden-Harris Administration is not doing proper vetting, children are being released not into the custody of family or friends—people who would provide proper care. Because the Biden-Harris Administration is not doing proper vetting, children are being released into the custody of likely human traffickers.
To put it bluntly, the Biden-Harris Administration has been releasing hundreds of thousands of children into slavery.
To put it bluntly, Kamala Harris has been releasing hundreds of thousands of children into slavery.
Is that the path “forward” Kamala Harris has in mind for the United States? Is this what she thinks Americans want for the United States?
Same party out here in California wants to insert itself into the family dynamic by hiding teacher student gender discussions. Truly horrific future for America's children.
Excellent report!
