Some 500 peer reviewed papers published in sixteen different journals across all scientific disciplines are being pulled, after the publisher of the journals, Hindawi, discovered their peer review process was rigged.
Richard Bennett, vice president of researcher and publishing services for Hindawi, told the Retraction Watch blog that the review uncovered “coordinated peer review rings,” which featured reviewers and editors coordinating to get papers through peer review.
More retractions are expected, as Hindawi’s investigation is ongoing. However, even though no names have been named, the sheer number of papers being pulled by rights should make this a scandal of scientific fraud of historic proportions.
Peer review is supposed to show a paper's research methods, analysis, and conclusions withstand scrutiny. Peer review is not supposed to mean having the right connections to get published.
I was hoping to find answers to that after Dr. Malone mentioned it. I think we're finding out that misconduct is pretty prevalent in the world of peer-reviewed. In my article yesterday on Biogen's new immunotherapy I mentioned a Science article that casts a lot of doubt on Alzheimer's research based on possibly fraudulent data and manipulation of Western Blots.

It's pretty ironic at the time we are being assured that these shots are A-OK more articles are being retracted at an ever increasing rate.
