The freedom from consequence is not new — it I think is why many states allow 12 year olds to get HPV vaccinated without parental consent for example. Its one of the the roots of the pro choice/pro life debate. If you had a population who exercised restraint monkeypox is indeed an easy problem. Why is government respecting the vulnerable’s rights in this case, when they stomped all everyone’s for covid? New cases in the US for monkeypox probably peaked last week — is it because they know it will probably just go away? Or that it will likely just hang out endemic in already stigmatized populations?

The gay community should feel insulted that they aren't being trusted with taking responsibility. But there is no money in abstinence

Are you suggesting that the gay community would take more responsibility now than they did in the 1980s, after it became well-understood how HIV/AIDS spread, and catching HIV/AIDS was effectively still a death sentence?

The spread of monkeypox today has pretty much already answered that question, I think.
